Over 80 young people complete Multi-Track course – the verdict: “Amazing!”
19 October 2015
September saw the last of over 80 young people complete a 12-week music based course which enhanced their appreciation of the arts and not just their musical abilities. The programme helped developed skills such as communication and team work.
The Youth Connexions course, Multi-Track, was funded by a grant from The Foundation of Youth Music. It ran from three Youth Connexions venues across the County: YouthPoint in Watford, XC in Hemel Hempstead and Bowes Lyon Centre in Stevenage.

Young people worked towards the Bronze level Arts Award by participating in a mix of guided and non-guided learning hours. A variety of musical skills were gained ranging from learning a scale on the piano to breathing techniques and vocal exercises. All young people were taken through the song writing process and each group worked together to produce a collective song and worked in smaller groups to produce compositions and songs using a computer.
During the programme, young people benefited from access to professional music workers and youth work staff supporting them to produce evidence based portfolios that will be a valuable addition to their CVs.
A highlight of the course for all participants was a trip to the musical The Commitments at the Palace Theatre Shaftsbury Avenue.
