Young people have been learning new skills while giving something back to their communities during the summer holidays

The four-week National Citizen Service (NCS) programme sees young people choose worthwhile community causes, plan and budget for the projects, raise funds and carry out the work. As well as learning how to successfully manage a community project, the young people also took part in team-building exercises, which developed their communication, trust, listening and leadership skills. They also gained qualifications and skills in first-aid and sign language.

The winner of this year’s national Youth Health Champion Campaign Award is a group of students from St Albans who, supported by Youth Connexions, developed a sex education workshop for schools as part of their training to become Health Champions.
Youth Connexions secure three years funding from the Big Lottery Fund to develop young LGBT+ services and support

After initial work by Herts1125 Who not What, the young LGBT+ group supported by Youth Connexions, young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people in Hertfordshire will have the opportunity to develop more services and increase support across the county thanks to support from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.
Hertfordshire County Council secures top national award in Stonewall’s Education Equality Index 2016

On Friday 8th July, young people from Herts1125 Who not What group attended the Stonewall Education for All conference and, along with Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions and Herts for Learning, received the number one award on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council. The award recognises the local authority as the best in the country for its work with and for the young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender* community.

Youth Connexions recently coordinated a one day careers event for Key Stage 5 students at Presdales School in Ware. Students participated in an energetic careers carousel where they had the chance to meet local, national and global employers and seek advice and information.
